Reader Discovery Survey — Privacy Notice

Last revised: October 25, 2026
Status: Pre-launch — Not Yet Effective

Privacy Contact: dbuda9505@gmail.com

1. Introduction

DB Digital Library is an independent online bookstore offering downloadable e-books across fiction, lifestyle, culinary, and professional development categories.

We are developing the Reader Discovery Survey, an optional questionnaire designed to better understand the interests and reading habits of visitors to our website.

This notice explains what information the survey is designed to collect, how that information will be used, where it will be stored, and the choices available to participants.

The survey is currently operating as a demonstration interface. Responses are not yet transmitted to our research database. This notice will take effect when the survey's live data-collection features have been implemented and activated.

2. Purpose of Reader Research

DB Digital Library conducts reader research to make informed decisions about its digital book collection and shopping experience.

Information obtained through the Reader Discovery Survey is intended to support the following activities:

  • Collection development: Identifying demand for genres such as romance, drama, horror, food and cooking, business, and career development.

  • Reader segmentation: Understanding general differences in reading preferences across age groups, occupations, interests, and geographic regions.

  • Product planning: Evaluating which types of e-books may be relevant to existing and prospective readers.

  • Website improvement: Using aggregated research findings to improve content organization, category discovery, and the presentation of digital products.

  • Business analysis: Reviewing broad audience trends to guide future publishing and promotional decisions.

Survey findings are intended to inform business planning rather than make consequential decisions about individual visitors.

3. Information Requested Through the Survey

The Reader Discovery Survey contains four optional question stages, preceded by a privacy and consent screen.

Survey category Information requested
E-book preferences Preferred genres and reading categories
Profession or role General occupational or student status
Age and interests Age range and selected hobbies
Geographic location Broad region, such as Asia, Europe, or North America

The survey does not require participants to provide their full name, email address, telephone number, residential address, exact birth date, financial information, or precise geographic location.

Participants may select Prefer Not to Say, where available, or skip individual questions.

Although these responses are designed to avoid direct identification, combinations of demographic information may still constitute personal data in certain circumstances. Accordingly, DB Digital Library intends to apply appropriate privacy safeguards to the collected information.

4. Participation and Consent

Participation in the Reader Discovery Survey is entirely voluntary.

Visitors may decline to participate, skip a question, close the survey, or select Skip All without affecting their ability to browse the website, view product information, or purchase e-books.

Before a completed response is submitted for research, the live survey will present a privacy notice and obtain the participant's affirmative consent for the stated research purposes.

Consent to reader research will not be treated as consent to receive marketing emails, promotional messages, or other direct-marketing communications.

Where applicable, participants may withdraw their consent by contacting DB Digital Library using the privacy contact information provided in this notice. Requests involving previously submitted responses will be assessed in accordance with applicable law and the extent to which the relevant record can be identified.

5. How Survey Responses Will Be Processed

Once the live research system is activated, survey responses are intended to be processed through the following workflow:

  1. A visitor voluntarily completes all or part of the Reader Discovery Survey.

  2. The survey checks the required research consent and the validity of submitted selections.

  3. The response is transmitted through an approved submission process.

  4. A unique response reference and submission timestamp are generated.

  5. The validated record is stored in DB Digital Library's restricted research database.

  6. Authorized administrators review and summarize responses to identify aggregate reading preferences and market trends.

The intended survey database will use Google Sheets, with Google Apps Script supporting validation and database operations.

No participant account is required to answer the survey. Survey responses are not intended to be automatically matched with Shopify order records, purchase histories, or newsletter subscriber lists.

The planned use of this information is aggregate reader research. Individual survey submissions will not be sold as customer profiles.

6. Storage and Access Controls

DB Digital Library has established a restricted Google Sheets worksheet named Survey_Responses for its planned reader research database.

The spreadsheet is currently accessible only to the authorized account owner. Its general sharing setting is restricted rather than publicly accessible.

The associated Google Apps Script project has been tested for worksheet access, input validation, and controlled database writing.

These development tests do not establish that live public submissions are secure. Additional safeguards, including submission validation, abuse prevention, and appropriate access controls, must be completed before real survey data is accepted.

DB Digital Library intends to limit database access to authorized individuals responsible for research administration and business analysis.

Google services will provide the underlying data-processing infrastructure. Processing or storage may occur outside the Philippines under Google's applicable service arrangements.

The live system's final security configuration and relevant cross-border processing arrangements will be reviewed before the survey becomes operational.

7. Data Retention and Disposal

DB Digital Library proposes to retain individual survey submissions for a maximum of 90 days from the date of submission, unless a longer retention period is necessary and permitted or required by applicable law.

During this period, responses may be reviewed to prepare reader preference summaries and market research reports.

At the end of the retention period, individual responses are intended to be deleted from the active research database through a controlled deletion procedure.

Aggregated statistical findings that no longer identify individual participants may be retained for longer-term business planning.

The proposed 90-day deletion procedure has not yet been activated. Live data collection will remain disabled until the required retention controls have been implemented and tested.

8. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing

DB Digital Library uses Shopify to operate its online bookstore and plans to use Google Sheets and Google Apps Script to administer reader research.

These services may process information in accordance with their respective contractual terms, security practices, and privacy documentation.

DB Digital Library does not intend to disclose individual survey responses to advertising brokers, unrelated commercial organizations, or third parties for the purpose of selling personal information.

Survey information may be disclosed when required by applicable law or where disclosure is otherwise legally authorized.

Any future integration involving additional service providers will be evaluated for its relevance to the stated research purposes and applicable data-protection obligations.

9. Survey Results and Reader Profiling

The Reader Discovery Survey is intended to identify broad patterns of interest, such as which genres appeal to different demographic groups or geographic markets.

For example, aggregated responses may help DB Digital Library determine whether readers show greater interest in romance fiction, practical career guides, or digital cookbooks.

The survey is not currently designed to carry out automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on individual participants.

Should DB Digital Library introduce individualized profiling, personalized advertising based on survey responses, or new data-processing purposes, the relevant privacy disclosures and lawful processing arrangements will be reviewed before those features are introduced.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Subject to applicable laws, individuals may have rights concerning personal information processed about them, including rights to:

  • Receive information about the collection and use of their personal data.

  • Request access to personal data relating to them.

  • Request correction of inaccurate information.

  • Object to certain processing activities or withdraw consent where applicable.

  • Request erasure or blocking of personal data in circumstances provided by law.

  • Exercise other applicable rights, including data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with the relevant supervisory authority.

Because the Reader Discovery Survey is designed not to collect names or email addresses, identifying a particular response may require the unique response reference issued after submission.

DB Digital Library will evaluate requests based on the information reasonably available, applicable legal requirements, and the nature of the relevant data.

11. Privacy Inquiries and Requests

Participants should not send passwords, payment card information, government identification documents, or other sensitive records unless specifically required through an appropriate verification process.

DB Digital Library will review privacy-related communications and respond in accordance with applicable legal obligations.

12. Relationship to the Store Privacy Policy

13. Changes to This Notice

DB Digital Library may revise this notice when its survey procedures, data-processing arrangements, service providers, or applicable legal obligations change.

Material changes affecting the collection or use of survey information will be communicated through an updated notice and, where required, additional consent or other appropriate measures.

The effective date and revision details will be updated when the live survey system is ready for operation.

Pre-launch disclosure

The Reader Discovery Survey is currently in its development and testing stage. Its interactive questions are functional, but customer responses are not yet submitted to the research database. The live collection process, security controls, retention automation, and associated privacy procedures must be completed before this notice becomes effective.
